Meet Nate Frederiksen
Nathan Frederiksen is a Boulder-based composer, arranger, producer, and multi-instrumentalist whose work moves seamlessly between genre, medium, and instrument. His musical voice, both grounded in tradition and innovation, has been shaped by an early love of how every musical and visual element fits together, and his work reveals a radiant mosaic of influences that transcend traditional boundaries. Whether composing for a full orchestra, building rich modern productions, or scoring and implementing music in narrative-driven media like games and film, Nathan brings a characteristically fresh sound to any idea he can morph into music.
Piano is Nathan’s mother tongue and remains his creative home base, but over time, his curiosity led him to explore the expressive extent of other instruments as close as guitar and bass, and as far away as hammered dulcimer, oboe, and Cretan lyra. His performances with School of Rock over the course of a decade laid the foundation for a powerful stage presence and real-world experience in musical collaboration. As his skills deepened and his influence widened, he sought mentorship and study with renowned musicians such as Peter Stoltzman, Beth Bahia Cohen, Joanne Brackeen, and Max ZT, each of whom expanded his musical language in different directions from jazz principles to world folk traditions.

Now a student at Berklee College of Music, Nathan continues to grow as both an artist and a thinker, integrating his sonic and visual forwardness into every project he takes on. He approaches music like a living language, something that helps him find his voice with each instrument, style, and technique he absorbs. That same philosophy extends into the visual manifestations of his creativity, creating custom yoyos under the brand Inferno Yoyos, a surprising extension of his aesthetically and architecturally hardwired mindset.

His work has brought him to stages as diverse as the Boulder Theater, First Bank Center, the Berklee Performance Center, and twice to Red Rocks Amphitheatre. Nathan's sonic footprint is distinct yet adaptable, in a state of constant grounded experimentation and discovery. His growing body of work reflects a relentless pursuit of innovation, expression, and meaning.
In May 2025, his debut orchestral piece, Snow On Cinder, will premiere at the Berklee Performance Center, marking a significant milestone in his journey. As he continues to expand his portfolio, Nathan remains focused on creating immersive, boundary-pushing experiences in not only sound but in the digital and visual manifestations of that sound as well. He’ll always search for the sound unsung and will do anything to bring it into the spotlight.
