Bio

I'm Nate Frederiksen, a Boulder-based composer, arranger, producer, and multi-instrumentalist. My musical voice is grounded

in tradition and innovation, taking instruments and styles from global traditional music, and fusing them with contemporary

styles of jazz and classical music. Whether I'm composing for an orchestra, mixing a big band in a studio, creating audio

systems in FMOD or Wwise, or taking a taksim on my Hammered Dulcimer, I bring a fresh, fused, and characteristically "me"

sound intoanything I do.

Piano was my first musical home, and from that, I have branched out to playing instruments like the Hammered Dulcimer, the

Cretan Lyra, Mandolin, Oboe, and many others. My time performing with School of Rock solidified my interpersonal musical

skills, as well as a vibrant stage presence I carry with me anywhere I go. As my skills deepened and my influence widened, I

sought mentorship and study with renowned musicians such as Peter Stoltzman, Beth Bahia Cohen, Joanne Brackeen, and

Max ZT, each of whom expanded my musical language in vastly different directions from jazz principles to world folk

traditions.

Now finishing up my double major at Berklee College of Music, I continue to grow as both an artist and a thinker, integrating

my sonic and visual forwardness into every project I takes on. I approach music like a living language, something that helps

me find my voice with each instrument, style, and technique I absorb. That same philosophy extends into the visual

manifestations of my creativity, creating custom yoyos under the brand Inferno Yoyos, a surprising extension of my

aesthetically and architecturally hardwired mindset.

My time as a live performer has brought me to stages as diverse as the Boulder Theater, First Bank Center, the Berklee

Performance Center, and twice to Red Rocks Amphitheater. My sonic footprint is distinct yet adaptable, in a state of constant

grounded experimentation and discovery. My growing body of work reflects a relentless pursuit of innovation, expression,

and meaning.

In May 2025, my debut orchestral piece, Snow On Cinder, premiered at the Berklee Performance Center, marking a significant milestone in my journey. As I continue to expand my portfolio, I remain focused on pushing the envelope in some new

manner with every project I take on. I am currently writing a concerto for Celesta, a wholly underestimated instrument in its

expressive and sonic presence. I can't wait to share it with you all! Stay tuned!
